Separated from the World,
Being Hated and Persecuted
by the Religious World
- If the world hates you, know that it has hated Me before you.
- If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
- Remember the word which I said to you, A slave is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted Me, they will persecute you also; if they have kept My word, they will keep yours also.
- But all these things they will do to you because of My name, because they do not know Him who sent Me.
- If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.
- He who hates Me hates My Father also.
- If I did not do among them the works which no one else has done, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated both Me and My Father.
- But it is so that the word written in their law may be fulfilled, They hated Me without cause.
- But when the Comforter comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of reality, who proceeds from the Father, He will testify concerning Me;
- And you testify also, because from the beginning you have been with Me.
- They will put you out of the synagogues; but an hour is coming for every one who kills you to think that he is offering service to God.
- And these things they will do because they have not known the Father nor Me.
- But these things I have spoken to you that when their hour comes you may remember them, that I told you of them. Now these things I have not said to you from the beginning, because I was with you.
